Japan PM Sanae Takaichi To Visit India
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is expected to visit India in early July with a high-level business delegation, including executives from major Japanese firms such as Suzuki Motor, Itochu and Toyota Tsusho. The visit is likely to focus on investment, manufacturing, supply chains and deeper cooperation in India’s Northeast.
Takaichi India Visit To Focus On Assam
Takaichi is expected to travel to Assam during her India visit, with Guwahati likely to host a bilateral engagement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. If confirmed, this would be her first visit to India since taking office in October 2025.
The decision to hold high-level talks in Assam highlights the growing importance of India’s Northeast in regional connectivity and economic strategy. The visit is expected to underline New Delhi and Tokyo’s shared interest in developing the region as a bridge between India and Southeast Asia.
Japanese Business Delegation Eyes Investment
The Japanese delegation is expected to include more than 50 business leaders from major companies and industry groups. Executives from Suzuki Motor, Itochu and Toyota Tsusho are likely to be part of the visit, with some firms expected to explore or sign business agreements.
The talks may focus on manufacturing, mobility, logistics, critical technologies and supply chain partnerships. Japanese companies have long played an important role in India’s automobile and industrial sectors, with Suzuki remaining one of the strongest examples of successful India-Japan business cooperation.
India Japan Northeast Cooperation
Japan has emerged as a major development partner for India’s Northeast through infrastructure, connectivity and socio-economic projects. The India-Japan Act East Forum has supported cooperation in roads, bridges, water supply and regional development.
The proposed visit is expected to strengthen the India-Japan strategic partnership and expand Tokyo’s economic engagement in one of India’s most strategically important regions.
