ITBP Confirms Ongoing China Face-Offs in Arunachal

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor has confirmed continuing face-offs between Indian and Chinese troops at multiple locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh. Speaking in Rajasthan on October 22, 2026, Kapoor said the newly raised Shaurya commandos had demonstrated their capabilities during the confrontations with China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

ITBP Chief Confirms Ongoing Arunachal Border Face-Offs

Addressing personnel at an ITBP event in Alwar ahead of the force’s 65th Raising Day on October 24, Kapoor acknowledged continuing tensions along the India-China border.

The confrontations reportedly began in July near the Asaphila-Taksing sector of Arunachal Pradesh, where Indian and Chinese patrols encountered each other.

Despite diplomatic and military-level discussions between New Delhi and Beijing, the situation remains unresolved at certain locations.

Shaurya Commandos Strengthen India-China Border Security

Kapoor announced that the ITBP had established specialised Shaurya commando units to strengthen high-altitude combat readiness.

The commandos will eventually be deployed across border battalions, providing specialised capabilities for mountainous terrain.

The force has also introduced a new ‘Strike’ training programme to prepare personnel for confrontations similar to the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash.

All ITBP personnel are expected to complete the training by the end of 2027.

ITBP Expands Drone Warfare and Border Infrastructure

The ITBP chief outlined plans to modernise equipment and develop drone warfare capabilities along the 3,488-kilometre India-China border.

He said approximately 70% of an earlier ₹400-crore modernisation allocation had been directed towards drone capabilities.

A further modernisation programme worth approximately ₹4,000 crore has received in-principle approval, including ₹1,000 crore earmarked for drones and counter-drone systems.

The force is also constructing underground shelters and upgrading facilities at high-altitude border posts.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questioned the government’s response to the reported confrontations and alleged restrictions on Indian patrolling access.
