UP Poll Officials Face Action Over 10,470 Voter Errors

Uttar Pradesh election authorities have uncovered irregularities in 10,470 voter records in the Pilibhit Assembly constituency, prompting legal action against two electoral registration officers and the dismissal of a computer operator. The discrepancies emerged following opposition complaints about changes to voter identities in electoral rolls ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Pilibhit Voter List Probe Finds 10,470 Irregular Entries

An investigation ordered by Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa found that 13,779 Form-8 applications were entered between May 31 and August 29, 2026.

Of these, 10,470 applications were approved and 3,309 rejected. However, investigators could not locate the original applications or supporting documents required to authorise the changes.

Form-8 is used to request corrections or changes to existing voter registration details.

Two Election Officials Face Legal Action in UP

Pilibhit District Magistrate Alok Kumar identified the officials as Sub-Divisional Magistrates Mayank Goswami and Hemant Chaudhary, who supervised electoral registration during the period.

Both have been attached to the district headquarters, with departmental proceedings initiated against them.

Computer operator Anil Kumar has been dismissed.

Authorities have ordered legal action under Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Congress and Samajwadi Party Flag Voter Roll Changes

The Congress alleged that details of 13,150 voters had been altered while their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers remained unchanged. The Samajwadi Party raised similar concerns.

Election officials have also ordered scrutiny of Form-6 applications for voter registration and Form-7 applications for deletion submitted between April 10 and October 21.

Corrections to the affected Form-8 records are underway.

The investigation has confirmed procedural irregularities, although the full extent of any deliberate manipulation remains under examination.
