Trump Opens America 250 Celebrations
U.S. President Donald Trump launched America’s 250th Independence Day celebrations with a speech at Mount Rushmore, combining patriotic messaging with political attacks on communism, progressive Democrats and immigration.
Trump Mount Rushmore Speech Opens America 250
Trump addressed supporters at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota on July 3, a day before the United States marked 250 years since the Declaration of Independence. The event included patriotic performances, military tributes and fireworks as part of the wider America 250 celebrations.
In his remarks, Trump praised the legacy of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, whose faces are carved into the monument. He said the anniversary should be used to defend America’s founding values and national identity.
Trump Attacks Communism And Democrats
The speech also took a sharply political turn as Trump warned against what he described as a growing “communist menace” in the United States. He linked the remarks to progressive Democrats and democratic socialist candidates who have gained attention in recent political contests.
Trump also connected the issue to immigration, saying some newcomers held views that were opposed to American values. The comments gave a partisan tone to an event officially framed around national unity and the country’s 250th anniversary.
America 250 Celebrations Continue
The Mount Rushmore event formed part of a broader national programme to mark America’s semiquincentennial. Further July 4 events were scheduled in Washington, including celebrations at the National Mall and a fireworks display.
The speech came during a politically charged period ahead of the midterm elections, with Trump using the anniversary platform to highlight patriotism while sharpening his campaign message against political opponents.
