India was represented at the funeral ceremony by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain.
Several Indian public figures, scholars and religious community leaders also attended related ceremonies and paid tribute. The embassy said their presence stood as a sign of mutual respect and solidarity with the Iranian people.
India Iran Relations In Focus
Khamenei, who served as Iran’s Supreme Leader for more than three decades, was killed earlier this year. His funeral ceremonies drew international attention due to Iran’s regional role and continuing tensions in West Asia.
India and Iran have maintained long-standing ties shaped by civilisational links, energy interests, trade, connectivity and regional diplomacy. India’s participation in the funeral ceremonies is being seen as part of New Delhi’s effort to preserve balanced diplomatic relations in a sensitive geopolitical environment.
The development comes at a time when India continues to engage multiple West Asian partners while protecting its strategic and economic interests.
