Iran Names Mohsen Rezaei as Security Chief
Iran has appointed former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohsen Rezaei as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, placing the veteran security figure at the centre of Tehran’s national security apparatus amid continuing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz.
Mohsen Rezaei Takes Top Security Role
Rezaei previously commanded the IRGC for more than 15 years and played a major role in Iran’s military establishment during the Iran-Iraq War. He later moved into senior political and economic positions while remaining influential within Iran’s security establishment.
His appointment gives him a leading role in coordinating national security policy at a time when Iran faces heightened regional and diplomatic pressures.
Iran Reshuffles Supreme Security Council
The change represents another significant reshuffle within Iran’s senior security leadership. The Supreme National Security Council brings together senior political, military and intelligence officials and plays a central role in shaping Tehran’s defence, foreign policy and strategic decisions.
