IndiGo Launches Cabin Bag-Only Fare
IndiGo has introduced a new cabin baggage-only fare option for passengers who travel light, offering lower ticket prices by excluding checked-in baggage from the base fare. The new category, called IndiGo Lite, is aimed at economy passengers looking for cheaper and more flexible travel options.
IndiGo Lite Fare Launched
IndiGo Lite will be available for bookings from July 1, 2026, through the airline’s direct channels, including its website, mobile app and contact centre. Travel under the new fare category will begin from July 15, 2026.
The fare will be offered on domestic and international non-stop flights. It will apply to one-way, return and multi-city bookings and can be selected for both adult and child passengers.
Cabin Baggage Only Air Fare
Passengers booking IndiGo Lite will be allowed to carry cabin baggage of up to 7 kg. The fare does not include checked-in baggage, making it suitable for travellers carrying only a backpack or small cabin bag.
The airline said passengers under this fare will get an auto-assigned seat at no extra cost. Those who want additional services can separately purchase checked baggage, preferred seats, meals or priority services such as Fast Forward.
Airline Fare Unbundling Trend
The launch comes as airlines in India are increasingly unbundling services to offer lower entry-level fares. By separating checked baggage and other add-ons from the base ticket price, carriers are targeting price-sensitive passengers.
For IndiGo, the new fare expands its economy class options and gives passengers more control over travel costs. The move is expected to benefit short-duration travellers, business flyers and passengers who do not need check-in baggage.
