INDIA Bloc Launches Nationwide SIR Protest

The INDIA bloc has announced a nationwide campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision exercise, with district-level protests beginning on October 2 and a march to the poll panel planned for October 6.

INDIA Bloc Announces Save Democracy March

Opposition parties have planned a “Save Democracy March” across districts from October 2 to 8, making the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission central issues in the campaign.

The alliance has alleged irregularities in the SIR process and accused the Election Commission of failing to act independently. These are political allegations, and the poll body has maintained that its decisions were taken lawfully and through established institutional procedures.

Opposition MPs to March to Election Commission

Members of Parliament from INDIA bloc parties are expected to march to the Election Commission headquarters on October 6.

The opposition also plans five major rallies across the country as part of a broader mobilisation over electoral-roll revisions and demands concerning the Chief Election Commissioner.

Several opposition leaders have called for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, while raising questions over reported internal differences within the Election Commission.

SIR Row Intensifies Political Battle

The Special Intensive Revision has become the centre of a wider political confrontation, with opposition parties alleging that the process could affect voter inclusion and electoral fairness.

The Election Commission has rejected claims that final SIR-related decisions were taken unilaterally and has said key decisions were approved unanimously by the full Commission.

With major state elections approaching, the nationwide campaign is expected to keep electoral-roll revision and Election Commission functioning at the centre of opposition politics.
