Indian President Droupadi Murmu Makes Historic North Macedonia Visit
President Droupadi Murmu has arrived in North Macedonia for a two-day state visit, becoming the first Indian head of state to visit the Balkan country. The trip is intended to strengthen diplomatic, commercial and cultural relations.
Murmu’s Historic North Macedonia Visit
President Murmu reached the capital, Skopje, after concluding the first leg of her European tour in Moldova. She is visiting North Macedonia from July 21 to 22 at the invitation of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova.
The landmark visit reflects India’s effort to expand diplomatic engagement with countries in Central and Eastern Europe. India and North Macedonia established diplomatic relations in 1995 and have since developed cooperation through political exchanges and multilateral forums.
India-North Macedonia Bilateral Talks
Murmu is scheduled to hold talks with President Siljanovska-Davkova and North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. Discussions are expected to cover trade, investment, technology, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and closer people-to-people links.
She will also meet the president of North Macedonia’s Assembly and address the country’s Parliament. The engagements are expected to provide both governments with an opportunity to review bilateral relations and identify new areas of partnership.
Business Forum to Boost Trade
President Murmu will address an India-North Macedonia Business Forum involving representatives from both countries. The event will focus on increasing commercial exchanges and encouraging companies to explore investment opportunities.
Bilateral trade remains modest, leaving considerable scope for expansion in information technology, healthcare, food processing, manufacturing and infrastructure.
North Macedonia is the second destination on Murmu’s three-nation European tour. She earlier became the first Indian president to visit Moldova and will travel to Romania from July 23 to 25. Her Romanian visit will be the first by an Indian president in more than three decades.
