India Warns Citizens Against Joining Russian Army
India has issued a fresh warning to citizens against travelling to Russia to join its armed forces, describing the practice as a “dangerous path” that could expose recruits to mortal danger and leave them stranded in an active war zone.
MEA Warns Indians Against Joining Russian Army
The Ministry of External Affairs said it continues to receive reports of Indian nationals being recruited into the Russian military despite repeated warnings over the past two years.
The government said some individuals were actively seeking such opportunities for monetary benefits, believing they could later approach Indian authorities to secure their release.
The advisory urged Indians to fully understand the risks involved before taking such decisions.
Indians Told to Avoid Unverified Job Offers
The MEA also warned citizens against accepting employment offers from unverified recruiters or agents who are not registered with the ministry.
Authorities said foreign nationals were also being recruited into the Russian armed forces through non-public organisations, including voluntary groups.
The government advised anyone considering work in Russia to conduct proper due diligence and verify recruiters before travelling.
India Seeks Release of Citizens in Russian Forces
New Delhi said it remains in continuous contact with Moscow to ensure the safety, well-being and early discharge of Indian nationals currently serving with Russian forces.
Russia has separately indicated that it is preparing a list of Indian citizens still serving on the battlefield so that they can be identified and sent home.
The issue has remained sensitive for India after several citizens were drawn into combat roles during the Russia-Ukraine war, including cases in which families later sought government intervention.
