India to Establish Anti-Drone Units for Border Security
Home Minister Amit Shah has announced the establishment of dedicated anti-drone units to strengthen India’s border security and counter evolving threats. The initiative aims to address the growing challenge of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) being used for illicit activities along the borders.
Speaking at a border management event, Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping security forces with state-of-the-art technology to ensure national safety. “The anti-drone units will play a crucial role in detecting and neutralizing unauthorized drones that pose a threat to our security,” he stated.
Rising Threat of Drones
The use of drones for smuggling weapons, drugs, and surveillance by adversarial forces has increased significantly in recent years. This has posed a complex challenge for Indian border forces, especially along the western and northern borders. Shah highlighted the need for a proactive approach, stating that the government is working on integrating advanced detection and neutralization systems into existing security frameworks.
Multi-Tier Security Approach
The anti-drone units will be equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including radar systems, jammers, and laser weapons, to detect and counter UAV threats effectively. These units will work in coordination with other border security agencies to create a comprehensive security network.
Shah also stressed the importance of collaboration between central and state agencies to ensure seamless implementation of the anti-drone strategy. “Securing our borders requires a multi-tier approach that combines technology, intelligence, and manpower,” he said.
Commitment to National Security
This move aligns with the government’s broader vision of modernizing India’s border management systems. Over the past year, significant investments have been made in surveillance equipment, smart fences, and integrated command centers.
The establishment of anti-drone units reflects India’s focus on adapting to emerging threats and safeguarding its sovereignty. These measures are expected to enhance the operational capabilities of border forces and strengthen the country’s defense infrastructure against evolving security challenges.
