India Tells US to Sign Trade Deal if Satisfied
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that if the United States is happy with India’s trade offer, then the Trump administration should move ahead and sign the agreement. His comments came after two days of discussions between Indian officials and a US delegation in New Delhi.
India’s Offer Kept Confidential
Goyal noted that the US side had described India’s latest proposal as one of the best it had received, but he declined to share any details of the offer. He said five rounds of negotiations have been completed so far. The minister stressed that the goal is not to rush the process but to ensure the final agreement benefits both countries and supports long term economic cooperation.
Wider Context of Trade Engagement
The ongoing talks come at a time when both nations are trying to reduce friction in trade relations, especially following tariff actions earlier this year. Issues under discussion include market access, regulatory barriers and tariff reductions. Goyal said recent diplomatic interactions, including leadership level communication, reflected shared interest in strengthening economic ties.
