External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the relief mission after Venezuela was struck by powerful earthquakes that caused damage and triggered emergency response efforts.

Under Operation Amistad, two IAF C-17 aircraft have departed for Venezuela carrying relief materials, medical equipment and emergency support supplies. The operation’s name, Amistad, means friendship in Spanish, reflecting India’s message of solidarity with the people of Venezuela.

The relief package includes an Indian Army Field Hospital Unit to support medical treatment in affected areas. India has also sent more than 35 tonnes of humanitarian assistance, including medicines, relief supplies and critical medical equipment.

The consignment also includes two BHISHM Cubes, which are designed for rapid deployment in disaster zones and can help provide emergency medical care during relief operations.

IAF C-17 Aircraft Carry Relief Supplies

The deployment of C-17 transport aircraft highlights India’s ability to respond quickly to international humanitarian crises. The aircraft are being used to carry large volumes of medical and relief supplies to support Venezuela’s post-earthquake recovery efforts.

India said it remains committed to supporting the government and people of Venezuela during this difficult period. The mission adds to India’s growing record of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations for countries affected by natural disasters.

Operation Amistad comes as Venezuela continues rescue, medical and relief work following the earthquakes, with international support expected to play an important role in stabilising the response.
