40 IAF Sukhois Armed With BrahMos Missiles
Around 40 Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fighter jets have now been integrated with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, marking a major boost to India’s long-range precision strike capability.
IAF Su-30MKI Fighters Get BrahMos Missiles
BrahMos Aerospace co-director Alexander Maksichev said approximately 40 Su-30MKI fighters have been equipped with the air-launched BrahMos missile system.
The upgraded aircraft are part of the Indian Air Force’s larger Su-30MKI fleet, which includes around 270 fighters. The integration gives the IAF the ability to launch high-speed cruise missiles from long distances, increasing its operational reach and strike flexibility.
BrahMos Missile Strengthens Long-Range Strike Capability
The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile developed through Indo-Russian cooperation and is known for its speed, accuracy and versatility. It can be launched from land, sea and air platforms, making it one of India’s most important strategic weapons systems.
The air-launched version gives the Su-30MKI a stronger stand-off attack role, allowing the aircraft to engage targets from a safer distance without entering heavily defended zones.
India Boosts Air Combat Readiness
The Su-30MKI remains one of the backbone fighter platforms of the Indian Air Force. Its integration with BrahMos significantly enhances India’s ability to carry out precision strikes across extended ranges.
The development comes as India continues to modernise its air combat fleet and strengthen deterrence capabilities. With the BrahMos-equipped Sukhoi aircraft now forming a dedicated long-range strike element, the IAF has added greater depth to its offensive air power.
The integration also underlines the growing importance of indigenous and joint-development missile systems in India’s defence preparedness.
