India Has No Energy Shortage: Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said there is no shortage of energy in India and the supply position of crude oil, LPG and natural gas remains comfortable. His remarks came amid concerns over global oil price movement following tensions linked to the Iran conflict.

India Energy Supply Situation Comfortable

Hardeep Singh Puri said India has adequate energy supplies and there is no shortage of crude oil, LPG or natural gas in the country. He stated that the government is closely monitoring the global market situation and ensuring stable domestic availability.

The minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Ludhiana on Saturday. His comments were aimed at addressing concerns over possible supply disruptions due to geopolitical tensions.

LPG Crude Oil Supply In India

Puri said India’s LPG, crude oil and natural gas supply position is comfortable despite volatility in international markets. He added that the country has diversified its energy sourcing and continues to manage requirements through multiple supply channels.

The minister said global oil prices had increased in the wake of the Iran conflict, but India remained prepared to handle the situation without any immediate supply pressure.

India Fuel Prices Compared Globally

Puri also said fuel prices had risen sharply in several countries, while rates in India declined by 3.1% between May 2022 and May 2026. He credited government measures for keeping domestic prices under control despite international uncertainty.

The statement comes at a time when energy markets are reacting to conflict-related risks in West Asia, a region critical to global oil and gas supplies.
