India Blocks Pakistan Defence Minister’s X Account After Pahalgam Attack
Following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives, the Indian government has blocked the X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif within Indian territory. The decision is part of a wider crackdown to curb the spread of inflammatory and provocative content deemed harmful to India’s internal security and communal harmony.
Broader Action Against Misinformation
The move comes amid intensified action against cross-border propaganda. Earlier, India had also blocked 16 Pakistani YouTube channels that were allegedly involved in spreading misinformation and promoting content likely to incite communal unrest. Authorities emphasized the need to restrict the dissemination of false narratives that could destabilize the already sensitive environment following the terror attack.
Asif’s Remarks Draw Strong Criticism
Khawaja Asif had recently sparked outrage with his public admission during a televised interview, where he openly acknowledged Pakistan’s historical support and funding of terrorist organizations. Indian officials have pointed to this admission as further evidence of Pakistan’s continued involvement in fostering terrorism in the region.
In response to such developments, India’s diplomatic representatives have consistently highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting terrorism at international forums, asserting that no amount of denial or deflection can obscure the reality of state-sponsored extremism.
The blocking of Asif’s X account is viewed as part of India’s larger strategy to counter online narratives that threaten national security, maintain public order, and expose the duplicity of hostile elements operating from across the border.
