Hardeep Singh Puri Says India Has No Fuel Supply Shortage

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said India does not face any immediate fuel supply shortage, even as the West Asia crisis continues to create pressure on global energy markets.

India LPG Production Increased To 54,000 Tonnes

Puri said domestic LPG production has been increased from about 35,000-36,000 tonnes per day to 54,000 tonnes per day to strengthen supply availability during the ongoing regional crisis.

The minister said there was no shortage of LPG in the country and assured that fuel supply chains remained stable. The statement comes amid public concern over the impact of West Asia tensions on crude oil, LNG and cooking gas supplies.

India Has 69 Days Of Crude And LNG Stock

According to Puri, India currently has crude oil and LNG stocks sufficient for 69 days, while LPG stock is available for 45 days. He said these reserves give the country enough supply cushion despite volatility in international energy markets.

The assurance was made at the CII Annual Business Summit, where energy security, global disruptions and inflationary risks were among the major topics of discussion.

PM Modi Austerity Appeal Linked To Energy Crisis

Puri also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for careful use of fuel, postponement of gold purchases and avoidance of unnecessary foreign travel. He said the appeal should be seen as a wake-up call to reduce fiscal pressure caused by the West Asia conflict.

Modi had urged citizens to use metro services, carpool, shift towards electric vehicles, reduce petrol and diesel use, send parcels by rail and consider work from home where possible to conserve foreign exchange.
