Axar Patel Fined Rs 12 Lakh In IPL 2026
Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been fined Rs 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala.
Axar Patel Penalised For Slow Over-Rate
The penalty was imposed after Match No. 55 of IPL 2026 between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. The IPL confirmed that Delhi Capitals were behind the required over-rate during the match.
Since this was Delhi Capitals’ first over-rate offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Axar was fined Rs 12 lakh.
Delhi Capitals Beat Punjab Kings
The fine came despite Delhi Capitals recording a three-wicket win over Punjab Kings. Axar Patel and David Miller played important counter-attacking knocks, helping Delhi complete a successful chase and keep their slim playoff chances alive.
The win was important for Delhi, who remain in the lower half of the points table but are still mathematically alive in the race for the playoffs.
IPL Over-Rate Rules Under Focus
Slow over-rate penalties have remained a recurring issue in the IPL, with captains held responsible when teams fail to complete their overs within the allotted time.
For a first offence, the penalty is generally limited to a financial fine. Repeated offences can lead to stricter sanctions, increasing pressure on teams to manage bowling changes, field placements and match tempo more efficiently.
