General Subramani Takes Charge As New CDS
General NS Raja Subramani has taken charge as India’s new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Anil Chauhan. He will also function as Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs as India continues its push for military integration and theatre command reforms.
General Subramani Takes Charge As CDS
General Subramani assumed office as India’s third Chief of Defence Staff after General Anil Chauhan completed his tenure. His appointment was earlier announced by the Centre, with the Defence Ministry stating that he would serve from the date of assumption of charge until further orders.
The CDS is India’s senior-most military officer and plays a key role in improving coordination among the Army, Navy and Air Force.
India Defence Reforms In Focus
General Subramani takes charge at a time when the armed forces are working on greater jointness, modernisation and integrated planning. Theatre commands, tri-service coordination, self-reliance and technology-led warfare are expected to remain key focus areas.
In his first remarks, he underlined the importance of jointness, atmanirbharta and innovation as central themes for the armed forces.
New CDS Faces Strategic Challenges
The new CDS is expected to guide India’s military preparedness at a time of continuing security challenges along the borders with China and Pakistan. His experience in strategic and operational roles is expected to be important as India pushes long-pending structural reforms in defence.
The transition also comes as India seeks to strengthen indigenous defence capability, improve inter-service coordination and prepare its armed forces for modern warfare.
