India May GST Revenue Rises To Rs 1.94 Lakh Crore

India’s gross Goods and Services Tax revenue rose 3.2 percent year-on-year to Rs 1,94,184 crore in May 2026, according to official data released on June 1. The figure, however, was lower than April’s record collection, showing a moderation after a strong start to the financial year.

May GST Revenue Rises 3.2 Percent

The May GST collection stood at Rs 1.94 lakh crore, compared with Rs 1.88 lakh crore in the same month last year. Net GST revenue after refunds rose 3.3 percent year-on-year to Rs 1,66,904 crore.

The data reflects transactions carried out in April and indicates continued revenue growth despite a slower pace compared with previous months.

GST Collection Falls From April Record

The May mop-up was lower than April’s record GST collection of around Rs 2.43 lakh crore. April collections are usually higher because they include year-end compliance and financial closing-related activity.

The moderation in May suggests that while tax revenue remains strong, the growth rate has eased after the exceptional April performance.

India GST Revenue Shows Steady Tax Base

The latest figures show that India’s GST system continues to generate nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in monthly revenue, supported by compliance, consumption and business activity.

For the government, GST collections remain an important indicator of domestic demand and formal economic activity. Sustained revenue near this level can help support fiscal planning, though policymakers will watch whether slower growth continues in the coming months.
