Following the killings, residents marched towards the Chief Minister’s high-security residence in Imphal and placed two bodies outside the premises.
Security personnel used tear gas and batons to disperse protesters and subsequently removed the bodies.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited injured victims receiving treatment at Raj Medicity Hospital.
Manipur MLA Demands Action Against Militants
Local MLA Thokchom Lokeshor Singh demanded immediate government intervention and called for the removal of the nearby Sinai Suspension of Operations camp.
He also claimed that Assam Rifles personnel had assured the villagers of protection before the attack.
The latest violence has heightened security concerns along the Imphal East-Kangpokpi district boundary, where tensions between communities remain significant.
Manipur has experienced prolonged ethnic unrest involving Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023, with recurring incidents continuing to challenge efforts to restore stability.
