LK Advani Discharged From Delhi Hospital
Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani was discharged from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Monday, October 19, 2026, following an improvement in his health. The 98-year-old leader had been admitted on October 16 after developing a chest infection and was kept under medical observation during his hospital stay.
LK Advani’s Health Improves After Hospitalisation
The hospital confirmed that Advani had shown improvement following treatment under the supervision of Dr Vinit Suri, Senior Consultant in Neurology.
Advani was initially admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where doctors closely monitored his condition. Hospital authorities had earlier described his health as stable while he remained under observation.
His discharge came three days after admission, with doctors determining that his condition had improved sufficiently to leave the hospital.
BJP Veteran’s Previous Hospital Admissions
Advani has required hospital treatment on several occasions in recent years due to health-related concerns.
In May 2026, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital for age-related health issues and was discharged after a brief stay.
He also underwent hospital treatment in December 2024, when he was admitted to the ICU for medical investigations and observation.
Earlier in July 2024, Advani received treatment at both the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Apollo Hospital in Delhi.
LK Advani’s Political Career and Bharat Ratna
Advani is among the most prominent figures in the BJP’s history, having played a significant role in the party’s emergence as a major national political force.
He served as Union Home Minister from 1998 to 2004 and Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Advani also served multiple terms as BJP president and was closely associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
In 2024, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in recognition of his contributions to public life.
