Elon Musk Spends $366 Million on 2026 US Midterms

Elon Musk has emerged as the largest known political donor in the 2026 US midterm election cycle, spending roughly $366 million so far, including about $276 million since July, largely to help Republicans retain control of Congress.

Musk Pours $276 Million Into Republican Midterms

Musk’s spending since July has been directed towards Republican campaign groups and his own political action committee as the party fights to retain its majorities in the House and Senate.

Around $158 million went to the Senate Leadership Fund, which supports Republican Senate candidates, while another $76 million was directed to Musk’s America PAC.

He also contributed to groups supporting Republican House candidates and key Senate races.

Total 2026 Political Spending Reaches $366 Million

Musk’s total political spending during the current election cycle, which began in January 2025, has reached approximately $366 million.

The scale of the contributions makes him likely the biggest individual donor in the 2026 congressional elections.

America PAC is also conducting an extensive voter-turnout operation using door-to-door campaigning, digital advertising and direct outreach, similar to the strategy it employed during the 2024 presidential election.

Musk Reverses Earlier Spending Pullback

The surge represents a reversal from Musk’s earlier indication that he intended to reduce his political spending.

His renewed involvement comes as Democrats seek greater scrutiny of his business interests, including SpaceX government contracts and his former role leading the Department of Government Efficiency under President Trump.

Republicans are using the additional funding to strengthen campaigning across competitive House and Senate races ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
