EAM Jaishankar Flags Terror Concerns in US Ties
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said India’s concerns over terrorism remain a major factor in its relationship with the United States, warning that inadequate understanding of New Delhi’s security priorities can affect bilateral ties.

Speaking in New York after the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, Jaishankar said India has faced terrorism from a neighbouring country for decades as part of what he described as a deliberate policy.
Without naming Pakistan directly, he said very few countries had experienced terrorism on the scale faced by India over such a prolonged period.
Jaishankar added that when a partner does not fully understand or appreciate such a core security concern, it inevitably has an impact on the relationship.
India Seeks Greater US Understanding on Terrorism
The External Affairs Minister said India expects partners to recognise the seriousness of cross-border terrorism and the importance New Delhi places on national security.
His comments come against the backdrop of India’s continued concerns over Pakistan-based terror groups and Washington’s engagement with Islamabad on regional and strategic issues.
Jaishankar said India still wants its relationship with the United States to remain on an upward trajectory, but acknowledged that unresolved differences must be addressed for ties to strengthen further.
Trade Issues Also Weigh on Bilateral Relations
Apart from terrorism, Jaishankar identified trade negotiations as another area creating friction between the two countries.
He said domestic political and economic developments within the United States also influence Washington’s approach to its international partners.
India and the US continue to maintain extensive cooperation in defence, technology, energy and strategic affairs despite differences on trade and regional security.
