US President Donald Trump has questioned Britain’s decision to release on bail five men arrested near RAF Fairford over an alleged plot targeting the military base used by American forces, while suggesting investigators may be examining a possible Iran connection.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said he was surprised that British authorities had released the five suspects and added that he would not have made the same decision.
The men, all British nationals aged between 23 and 25 from the London area, were arrested after police received a report of suspicious activity involving three white vans near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
They were initially detained over suspected explosives offences before counter-terrorism officers arrested them on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
UK Police Examine Possible Foreign-State Link
Counter-terrorism police said the five men remain under investigation and have been released subject to strict conditions governing their movements and contact with others.
Investigators are examining several possibilities, including whether individuals may have been knowingly or unknowingly acting on behalf of a foreign state.
Trump suggested the incident “might be” connected to Iran but declined to provide evidence or further details. British authorities have not publicly confirmed Iranian involvement.
RAF Fairford Security Tightened After Arrests
RAF Fairford has been used by US forces for long-range bomber operations, including missions connected to the conflict with Iran.
Around 85 households were evacuated and a 400-metre security cordon established during the initial operation near the base.
Authorities have stressed that the suspects’ release on bail does not mean the investigation has concluded.
