Delhi Vivek Vihar Fire Kills Nine
Nine people, including a one-year-old child, died after a fire broke out in a residential building in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar early on Sunday. Police and fire officials have started an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Delhi Vivek Vihar Fire
The fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in the Shahdara area. Officials said the flames spread through flats on the upper floors while many residents were asleep.
Fourteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and the blaze was brought under control after several hours. Around 10 to 15 people were rescued during the operation.
Infant Among Nine Dead
The deceased included members of three families living in the building. A family of five, including one-year-old Akash Jain, died on the second floor. Another family of three was killed on the third floor, while one woman from the first floor also died.
The deaths have left residents and relatives in shock as investigators continue to examine how the fire spread so quickly.
Iron Grills And Locked Escape Routes
Initial findings suggest the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit or an AC-related fault. Officials are still verifying the exact cause.
Residents were reportedly trapped because flats had iron grills and enclosed extensions that blocked escape routes. The terrace was also said to be locked, making evacuation difficult.
Authorities are now checking possible fire safety violations and building modifications that may have worsened the tragedy.
