Vijay Announces 5-Year Age Relaxation for TN Jobs

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for government job aspirants, offering additional opportunities to candidates appearing for competitive recruitment examinations. The decision, announced on Friday, October 30, 2026, follows representations from applicants seeking greater flexibility in eligibility requirements. The relaxation will remain effective for five years and will apply in addition to concessions already available under existing recruitment rules.

Tamil Nadu Raises Age Limits for Group-I Government Jobs

Under the revised eligibility criteria, the maximum age for General Category candidates applying for Group-I services will increase from 32 to 37 years.

For candidates belonging to reserved categories, the upper age limit will rise from 37 to 42 years.

Differently-abled applicants will also receive the additional relaxation. The maximum age for General Category candidates with disabilities will increase from 42 to 47 years, while the corresponding limit for reserved category applicants will rise from 47 to 52 years.

Group-II and Group-II-A Aspirants Get Additional Relief

For Group-II and Group-II-A government recruitment examinations, the upper age limit for General Category candidates will increase from 30 to 35 years.

Differently-abled candidates belonging to the General Category will become eligible to apply until the age of 45, compared with the previous limit of 40 years.

Candidates from reserved categories who already enjoy exemption from the upper age limit will continue receiving that benefit.

Five-Year Relaxation to Remain Effective for Five Years

The Tamil Nadu government clarified that the additional concession would not replace existing age relaxations. Instead, it would be applied over and above the eligibility benefits currently available to different categories of applicants.

The revised provisions are intended to help candidates who may otherwise become ineligible because of age restrictions while preparing for government recruitment examinations.

The announcement provides an extended eligibility window for aspirants seeking employment in Tamil Nadu’s public services.
