Delhi Police Seeks Takedown of Abusive X Posts

By BPN News Desk July 29, 2026

Delhi Police has written to social media platform X seeking the immediate removal of posts and videos allegedly containing derogatory, malicious and defamatory material targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other constitutional authorities.

Delhi Police Seeks Removal of X Posts

The notice asks X to delete or restrict access to the identified content and provide information about the accounts responsible for uploading it.

Police have sought the users’ registered names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses. The platform has also been asked to share account login and logout records, corresponding timestamps and other information that could assist the investigation.

X Asked to Preserve Account Data

Delhi Police directed the platform to preserve all data connected to the disputed posts and videos while the investigation remains underway.

X has also been asked to provide a certificate under Section 63(4) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which deals with the admissibility of electronic records as evidence.

Police described the targeted material as abusive and defamatory. However, whether the content attracts criminal liability will depend on the investigation and any subsequent judicial proceedings.

Notices Follow CJP Protest Posts

The action follows complaints concerning online posts published during and after the CJP-led student protests at Jantar Mantar.

Police said abusive content targeting the Prime Minister and other senior authorities appeared across multiple social media platforms during the demonstrations and violence linked to the July 20 “Chalo Sansad” march.

Cyber and social media teams are continuing to monitor protest-related online activity. Police said several posts and videos had already been removed after notices were issued to the respective platforms.
