CRPF Officer Kills Two Colleagues in Assam
A Central Reserve Police Force officer allegedly shot dead two colleagues and injured another before taking his own life at a CRPF camp in Assam’s Nagaon district on Tuesday. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the shooting.
CRPF Camp Shooting in Assam
The incident occurred at a camp of the CRPF’s 34th Battalion in the Katimari area of Nagaon. According to preliminary information, the officer suddenly opened fire on personnel stationed at the camp.
Two CRPF personnel died in the firing, while another sustained serious injuries. The injured member was taken to a hospital for treatment. His latest medical condition was not immediately disclosed.
After firing at his colleagues, the officer allegedly turned the weapon on himself. He also died from the gunshot wound, taking the total number of fatalities in the incident to three.
Police Investigate Nagaon CRPF Incident
Police and senior CRPF officials reached the camp following the shooting. The area was secured as investigators began examining the scene and recording statements from personnel who were present.
The identities of the deceased officer and the two personnel he allegedly killed were not immediately released. Authorities were expected to notify their families before making further information public.
Investigators are also examining the weapon used and the events immediately preceding the firing.
Motive Behind Shooting Remains Unknown
Officials had not confirmed any dispute, personal grievance or other possible motive behind the incident at the time of reporting. No suicide note was reported to have been recovered.
The CRPF is expected to conduct a departmental inquiry alongside the police investigation. The inquiry will examine the sequence of events, the circumstances behind the officer’s actions and whether any warning signs were observed before the shooting.
