CPM To Decide On Tamil Nadu Support Today
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is set to hold key meetings today to decide its position on Tamil Nadu government formation after the 2026 Assembly election produced a hung verdict. The party is expected to discuss whether to support actor-politician Vijay’s TVK or the Dravidian coalition.
CPM State Secretariat Meet At 10 Am
The CPM state secretariat is scheduled to meet at 10 am to assess the post-poll situation in Tamil Nadu. The meeting is expected to review the numbers, political options and possible conditions before the party takes a formal position.
CPM To Take Final Call At 2 Pm
The CPM state committee is expected to take the final decision at its 2 pm meeting. The party’s support could become important in the government formation process, especially as no single party has secured a clear majority in the Assembly.
Vijay’s TVK Seeks Support
Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has emerged as the single largest party in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly but remains short of the 118-seat majority mark. TVK is seeking outside support to prove its numbers and stake claim to form the government.
Dravidian Coalition Also In Talks
The Dravidian coalition is also expected to seek support from smaller parties as political negotiations continue. CPM’s decision could influence the next stage of government formation and determine whether Tamil Nadu moves closer to a stable post-poll arrangement.
