Congress Warns Against Tamil Nadu Manipulation
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has warned against any attempt to manipulate government formation in the state after the 2026 Assembly election delivered a hung verdict. The party’s statement came as Vijay’s TVK, which emerged as the single largest party, continued efforts to secure enough support to form the government.
Tamil Nadu Congress Says Do Not Betray Mandate
In a post on X, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee shared an image carrying the message, “Don’t betray the mandate. Don’t manipulate.” The post was aimed at the ongoing political uncertainty after no party secured a clear majority in the 234-member Assembly.
TVK Seeks Numbers To Form Government
Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the single largest party but remained short of the 118-seat majority mark. With conditional support from Congress MLAs, TVK is still required to secure additional backing from smaller parties or independents to prove majority support.
Congress Accuses BJP And Governor
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Governor of trying to deny TVK its democratic opportunity to form the government. The party alleged that backroom political manoeuvring was being used to delay or weaken Vijay’s claim.
