Congress Hits Back at PM Modi Over ‘Dimaagi Naxals’
The Congress has hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his Independence Day warning against “dimaagi Naxals”, with party general secretary Jairam Ramesh describing the remarks as a sign of political “desperation”. Modi had used the term while arguing that Maoist ideology remained a threat even as armed Naxalism declined.
Congress Attacks Modi Over ‘Dimaagi Naxals’
Ramesh criticised the Prime Minister for using his Red Fort address to target what Modi described as intellectual or ideological supporters of Maoism.
The Congress leader argued that the remarks reflected frustration within the government and accused Modi of using the Independence Day platform to attack critics and political opponents.
Congress maintained that disagreement with the government should not be equated with extremism or anti-national activity.
Modi Calls for Isolation of Maoist Ideology
During his Independence Day speech, Modi said armed Naxalism was “breathing its last” following sustained security operations and development initiatives in affected regions.
However, he warned that people influenced by Maoist thinking remained active in different parts of society.
Modi said such “dimaagi Naxals” needed to be identified and isolated to prevent extremist ideology from gaining new ground even as the armed insurgency weakened.
BJP-Congress Political Battle Intensifies
The exchange comes amid heightened confrontation between the government and Opposition following a turbulent Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Congress leaders have claimed that public protests and Opposition coordination have placed the BJP under increasing political pressure, while the government has accused its opponents of obstructing parliamentary proceedings and development initiatives.
