CJP Claims Mass Detentions Ahead of Delhi Protest

The Cockroach Janta Party has accused authorities of detaining thousands of its supporters ahead of a major protest planned in New Delhi on October 10, as security is tightened around the capital amid continuing unrest over electoral roll revisions.

CJP Claims Thousands Detained Ahead of Delhi Protest

The youth-led political movement has claimed that around 10,000 supporters have been detained across India, including students travelling from Pune and other cities to participate in the planned demonstration.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has said the protest will go ahead despite the detentions and police restrictions.

Delhi Police have denied permission for the Jantar Mantar demonstration, citing the late submission of the protest request and prohibitory orders currently in force in the New Delhi district.

Protest Targets Chief Election Commissioner

The movement is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the ongoing revision of electoral rolls.

Opposition parties and youth groups have alleged that large-scale deletions from voter lists risk disenfranchising legitimate voters.

Election authorities have defended the revision process as an effort to remove duplicate, ineligible and outdated entries, while maintaining that eligible voters who were wrongly excluded can seek re-enrolment.

Security Tightened Across New Delhi

Thousands of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed ahead of the protest, while restrictions have been imposed around several sensitive locations.

The controversy has intensified following recent opposition demonstrations and the temporary detention of senior Congress leaders during protests related to the electoral roll issue.

The CJP, which emerged earlier this year as a youth-driven protest movement, has increasingly positioned itself around voter rights, education-related grievances and broader political accountability.
