China Fireworks Factory Blast Kills 21
At least 21 people have been killed and 61 others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a fireworks factory in central China’s Hunan province. Emergency teams were deployed to the site as authorities began rescue work and launched an investigation into the cause of the blast.
China Fireworks Factory Explosion In Hunan
The explosion took place at a fireworks manufacturing facility in Liuyang, a city under Changsha in Hunan province. The plant was operated by Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company. The blast caused heavy structural damage and left the site hazardous for rescue teams.
21 Killed And 61 Injured In Factory Blast
State media reported that 21 people died in the explosion, while 61 others were injured. Nearly 500 rescuers were sent to the scene. Authorities also evacuated nearby residents because of the danger posed by black powder warehouses located close to the blast site.
Rescue Operations Continue At Blast Site
Rescue teams used safety measures including water spraying and humidification to reduce the risk of further explosions. Robots were also deployed as parts of the site remained unsafe. Smoke was still visible after the explosion, indicating the scale of the damage.
China Orders Probe Into Fireworks Safety
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for intensive search and rescue efforts, a quick investigation and strict accountability. Liuyang is known as one of China’s major fireworks production centres, and the latest accident has again raised concerns over industrial safety in hazardous manufacturing units.
