Trump Cancels Iran Strikes Amid Talks
President Donald Trump has called off planned U.S. strikes on Iran, saying Washington and Tehran could move toward a peace agreement in the coming days. The statement came after earlier warnings of tougher military action against Iran and possible moves targeting its oil infrastructure.
Trump Cancels Iran Strikes
Trump said the U.S. would not proceed with additional strikes for now, citing progress in diplomatic discussions. He claimed that Iran’s leadership had approved further talks aimed at ending the conflict and addressing major security concerns.
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry indicated that no final decision had been made. Tehran has not confirmed that a full agreement is ready to be signed, suggesting that key issues remain unresolved.
US Iran Peace Talks
The proposed diplomatic process is expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear programme, regional tensions and security arrangements in the Gulf. Reports suggest that discussions may include steps linked to the Strait of Hormuz, where instability has disrupted energy markets.
The U.S. has maintained pressure through sanctions and restrictions, while Iran continues to seek access to frozen funds. The release of Iranian assets remains one of the major sticking points in the negotiations.
Iran Oil Infrastructure Tensions
Earlier, Trump had threatened action against Kharg Island and other Iranian oil infrastructure. Military officials reportedly viewed such a move as highly complex and risky, given the strategic importance of Iran’s energy facilities.
The shift from military threats to diplomacy signals a possible attempt to avoid further escalation in the region. Still, the situation remains fragile as both sides continue to issue cautious statements.
Congressional Republicans have warned against any deal that weakens pressure on Tehran, while global markets are closely watching whether talks can produce a lasting agreement.
