Cabinet Clears 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas
The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under the civil sector across India. The decision aims to enhance access to central-school education, especially for children of central government employees.
Investment and Coverage
The scheme involves an estimated outlay of ₹5,862.55 crore over nine years. The new schools will be spread across 17 states and Union Territories to promote balanced educational infrastructure.
Focus Areas and Distribution
Of the 57 new KVs:
- 20 will be set up in districts that currently do not have any KV
- 14 will be in aspirational districts
- 4 will be in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas
- 5 will be in hilly or Northeast regions
Each of the new KVs will include Balvatikas (pre-primary classes) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Benefits and Student Reach
Once operational, the new KVs are expected to benefit over 86,000 students. Authorities estimate these schools will create 4,600+ permanent teaching and non-teaching posts and spur job opportunities during the construction phase.
Implementation and Timeline
The project is planned to begin from the 2026–27 academic year. The selection of locations, land allocation, and coordination with state governments and educational bodies are underway. The Cabinet decision is a continuation of the government’s efforts to expand the reach of central schools in underserved areas.
