Bombay High Court Upholds Arrest of Sachin Waze in Antilia Bomb Scare Case
The Bombay High Court has dismissed a habeas corpus petition filed by former Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze, challenging his arrest in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case.
The case dates back to February 25, 2021, when a vehicle containing 20 sticks of gelignite was discovered near Antilia, the Mumbai residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. A note found inside the vehicle threatened further violence against the Ambani family. The vehicle was traced to Mansukh Hiren, a car accessory shop owner, who had reported it stolen a week prior. Subsequently, Hiren was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Mumbai creek.
Sachin Waze, a Mumbai Police officer known to Hiren, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 13, 2021, for his alleged involvement in placing the explosive-laden vehicle near Antilia. His arrest led to significant upheaval within the Mumbai Police force, including the transfer of the then Commissioner of Police, Param Bir Singh. Singh later alleged that Waze was operating under the instructions of Maharashtra’s Home Minister at the time, Anil Deshmukh, leading to Deshmukh’s resignation after the Bombay High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inquire into the allegations.
