Bihar Hospital ICU Fire Kills Four

At least four patients died after a massive fire broke out in the ICU of a private hospital in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, triggering panic and emergency evacuation efforts early Thursday morning.

The fire erupted in the Intensive Care Unit on the fifth floor of Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur. Fire department officials received an emergency call around 3:55 am, after which teams were rushed to the spot.

Rescue operations were launched immediately as smoke spread through the hospital. Authorities said the death toll could rise, with several patients shifted out of the affected area.

At least four patients have been confirmed dead in the incident. Around 20 people were evacuated from the ICU, while other patients were moved to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

Initial reports suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the blaze, though officials are yet to confirm the exact cause. A detailed investigation is expected to examine whether fire safety systems and emergency protocols were functional at the hospital.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over fire safety arrangements in private hospitals, especially in critical care units where patients are often unable to move without medical support.
