Venezuela’s Delcy Rodriguez Arrives In India

Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez has arrived in New Delhi on a five-day visit aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation, with energy security expected to remain a key focus of discussions.

Delcy Rodriguez Begins India Visit

Rodriguez arrived in India on Wednesday for a working visit from June 3 to June 7. She is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior Indian leaders during her stay.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit is expected to deepen India-Venezuela ties and build on the momentum in the bilateral partnership.

India-Venezuela Energy Cooperation In Focus

Energy cooperation is expected to be one of the main areas of discussion during the visit. India has been looking to diversify crude oil supplies amid volatility in West Asia and concerns over disruptions to global energy routes.

Venezuela, which has some of the world’s largest oil reserves, was once an important supplier of heavy crude to Indian refiners. Indian imports from Venezuela had declined sharply after sanctions and compliance risks affected oil trade.

Trade, Pharma And Technology Ties

Apart from energy, both sides are expected to discuss cooperation in trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, transportation and renewable energy.

Rodriguez is being accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers handling foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and transportation. The visit is seen as part of renewed diplomatic and economic engagement between India and Venezuela.
