Bengaluru Daycare Abuse Case Widens
Bengaluru police have made arrests in the alleged daycare abuse case involving toddlers at an on-campus childcare facility, with the probe widening against caregivers named in the FIR.
Bengaluru Daycare Abuse Case
The case relates to alleged abuse of toddlers at a daycare facility operating inside the Capgemini campus in Brookefield, Bengaluru. Police registered an FIR against five women caregivers after videos purportedly showing mistreatment of children surfaced and were reported to the Child Helpline.
The alleged incidents involved children aged around two to three years. Investigators are verifying the videos and examining whether more children were subjected to similar treatment at the facility.
Caregivers Arrested In Bengaluru
Police initially arrested caretaker Vijayalakshmi, who was named in the FIR and allegedly seen in one of the videos. Subsequent reports said two people had been arrested as the investigation gathered pace.
The FIR names five caregivers, while police are questioning others linked to the daycare. Notices were also issued to some accused persons to appear before investigators. Authorities have said the case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act.
Capgemini Daycare Temporarily Closed
Capgemini has temporarily closed the Bengaluru on-campus daycare facility as a precautionary measure. The company said it is cooperating with authorities and that the safety and wellbeing of children and families remain its priority.
Child rights bodies have also stepped in, with inquiries being initiated into the alleged abuse and supervision failures. The incident has triggered wider concern over safety standards at workplace daycare centres, especially those handling very young children.
The investigation is continuing, with police expected to determine the role of each caregiver and whether the alleged abuse had continued over a longer period.
