Assam Withdraws Cases Against CJP Protesters
The Assam government has announced the withdrawal of cases and legal proceedings against people who participated in protests over alleged NEET-UG examination irregularities. The decision follows a similar assurance issued by the Bihar government.
Assam Withdraws CJP Protest Cases
The Assam government said no further adverse action would be taken against individuals involved in the demonstrations. FIRs and other legal proceedings connected with the protests are expected to be withdrawn, while arrested or detained participants will be released.
The authorities reportedly said the cases would be treated as closed and that participants would not face fresh legal action solely for taking part in the agitation.
Bihar Assures No Legal Action
The Bihar government had earlier announced that FIRs, criminal complaints and show-cause notices linked to the protests would be withdrawn.
The assurance covered demonstrations held over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination and related concerns raised by students. Authorities also said no punitive action would be pursued against protesters covered by the government’s decision.
The announcements from Bihar and Assam came after demands that protesters should not face prosecution following the conclusion of the agitation.
CJP Seeks Action Across Other States
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das welcomed the Assam government’s decision and said the organisation would continue supporting protesters facing legal proceedings.
The group claimed that draft notifications from Bihar and Assam had been discussed during negotiations with government representatives. It also said similar assurances were expected from Rajasthan and other BJP or NDA-governed states.
CJP had earlier warned that it could resume demonstrations if FIRs were not withdrawn and detained protesters were not released. The organisation said it would continue monitoring developments until the assurances were formally implemented across all affected states.
