Amit Shah Offers Debate on Student Crackdown
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the government is ready for a detailed discussion in Parliament on the police action against student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, provided the Opposition formally seeks the debate. Rahul Gandhi rejected the offer, saying he wanted direct answers rather than a general discussion.

Shah said the Opposition should submit a written request to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking a discussion on the issue and allow Parliament to function.
He said that if the Opposition submitted the request by 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the government was prepared to begin the debate at 3 p.m. and continue discussions until 3 p.m. the following day.
Shah also said he was ready to respond during the debate.
Rahul Gandhi Rejects Shah’s Debate Offer
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said the Opposition was “not interested” in receiving what he described as a lecture from the Home Minister.
Gandhi instead demanded specific answers over who authorised the police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar.
He questioned the alleged use of pellet guns and lathis against students and said Shah should resign if the action had been ordered by him.
Jantar Mantar Protest Dominates Parliament
The police action against protesters has become a major point of confrontation during the Monsoon Session.
Opposition parties have repeatedly demanded accountability from the Home Ministry, while the government has maintained that it is prepared for a parliamentary discussion if proceedings are allowed to continue.
The dispute has contributed to repeated disruptions in the Lok Sabha and intensified the political confrontation between the government and the Opposition.
