Amit Shah Challenges Rahul Gandhi to SIR Debate
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav to debate allegations of electoral irregularities in a special session of Parliament. Speaking at the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh state executive meeting in Lucknow on October 30, 2026, Shah said the government was prepared to discuss the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Amit Shah Challenges Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav
Shah accused opposition leaders of disrupting parliamentary proceedings while raising allegations of voter manipulation outside Parliament.
He maintained that the BJP had nothing to conceal and was willing to participate in a special parliamentary session dedicated to electoral issues.
Referring to the BJP’s electoral victories in several states, Shah argued that opposition parties were questioning the election process instead of accepting unfavourable results.
INDIA Bloc Plans Public Impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar
Shah’s remarks came ahead of the INDIA bloc’s proposed symbolic impeachment proceedings against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The event, initially scheduled for October 30, was postponed to October 31 because of rainfall in Delhi.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to present the symbolic impeachment motion, while former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is scheduled to preside over the proceedings.
The exercise has no constitutional authority to remove the Chief Election Commissioner. Formal removal requires parliamentary procedures and the prescribed special majority.
Electoral Roll Revision Remains Centre of Political Dispute
Opposition parties have alleged that the SIR exercise resulted in the removal of approximately 13 crore names from electoral rolls and have demanded restoration of the earlier lists.
Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly accused the Election Commission of failing to protect electoral integrity. The BJP has rejected allegations of systematic voter manipulation.
The controversy previously disrupted parliamentary proceedings, including debates during 2025.
The INDIA bloc is also preparing a demonstration at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, demanding accountability from the Election Commission.
