14 Indian Crew Evacuated Off Oman Coast

Fourteen Indian crew members were safely evacuated from the Indian-flagged vessel Virat 1 after it suffered an engine failure off the Oman coast. Indian officials said the rescue was coordinated with Omani authorities and support from maritime agencies in the region.

The Indian Embassy in Muscat said the vessel Virat 1 was involved in an incident off Oman after suffering engine failure. The ship reportedly had 14 Indian crew members on board.

Following the breakdown, the crew abandoned the vessel and moved to a liferaft. Rescue efforts were then launched to evacuate them safely from the area.

Virat 1 Engine Failure Incident

Officials said the incident was caused by a technical failure and was not linked to recent security-related attacks on commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman.

The vessel had reportedly been sailing in the region when the engine failure triggered the emergency. Authorities continued to monitor the situation after the evacuation.

Oman Maritime Rescue Operation

The rescue operation was coordinated by the Indian Embassy in Muscat, Omani authorities and maritime agencies operating nearby. Reports said assistance from the US Navy also helped in evacuating the crew.

The incident comes amid heightened concern over Indian seafarer safety in the region after recent attacks on vessels off Oman. However, in this case, all 14 Indian crew members were reported safe.
