12 Killed in Pakistan Suicide Bombing
At least 12 people were killed and around 30 others injured after a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a roadside police checkpoint in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, September 26.
Suicide Bombing Hits Dera Ismail Khan Checkpoint
The attack took place in Dera Ismail Khan district, where the bomber struck a police checkpoint on the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta route.
Police said the attacker used an explosives-laden vehicle to target the checkpoint. Bomb disposal teams were sent to the site to determine the type and quantity of explosives used in the blast.
Among those killed were security personnel, including officials from Pakistan’s customs and excise department. Several of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition.
TTP Claims Responsibility for Pakistan Attack
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, also known as the Pakistani Taliban or TTP, claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing.
The TTP is separate from Afghanistan’s Taliban government but maintains ideological and historical links with the Afghan Taliban. Pakistan has repeatedly accused militants operating from across the Afghan border of carrying out attacks inside its territory.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene after the explosion and transferred the dead and injured to nearby hospitals.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sees Surge in Militant Violence
The latest bombing comes amid a sharp increase in militant attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly against police and security installations.
Dera Ismail Khan has witnessed repeated attacks in recent weeks, while another major assault in Kohat earlier this month killed dozens and injured more than 100 people.
Pakistan’s security forces have stepped up counterterrorism operations as the country continues to face an escalating threat from militant groups operating in the northwest.
