India Warns Pakistan Over Terrorism at UNGA
India has delivered a sharp response to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the United Nations General Assembly, warning that continued terrorism will have consequences and reaffirming its right to defend itself.
India Hits Back at Shehbaz Sharif at UNGA
Exercising India’s Right of Reply, First Secretary Petal Gahlot rejected Sharif’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir and accused Pakistan of presenting a misleading narrative on terrorism and regional security.
Gahlot also referred to Osama bin Laden being found in Abbottabad near Pakistan’s premier military academy, using the example to question Islamabad’s claims on counterterrorism.
She said Pakistan could not claim to support international security while, in India’s view, continuing to enable cross-border terrorism.
India Warns Pakistan Over Continued Terrorism
India warned that further terrorism would carry consequences and said its right to defend itself would continue to be exercised.
Gahlot referred to Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025 following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. India had targeted what it described as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Sharif, during his UNGA address, again raised Kashmir and credited US President Donald Trump with helping halt the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict. India has consistently rejected claims that third-party mediation ended the confrontation.
Kashmir and Indus Waters Treaty Raised at UN
Gahlot reiterated India’s position that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country and also raised alleged human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
India further criticised Pakistan’s record on minority rights and democracy.
On the Indus Waters Treaty, India maintained that the agreement would remain in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irreversibly ends support for cross-border terrorism.
