11 Killed in South Africa House Party Shooting
At least 11 people, including a woman believed to be pregnant, have been killed after three armed men opened fire at a house party in KwaMakhutha township, south of Durban in South Africa. Three others were injured in the late-night attack, while police have launched a manhunt for the assailants.
Three Gunmen Attack KwaMakhutha House Party
Police said 14 people were gathered inside a house in the Ziko area of KwaMakhutha when three gunmen entered shortly before 11 pm on Tuesday and opened fire.
Ten victims died at the scene, while another later succumbed to injuries in hospital. Three people survived with injuries.
KwaMakhutha is located around 30 kilometres south of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal province.
Police Investigate Possible Gang-Related Motive
The motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed. However, preliminary investigations indicate that some of those killed were known to South African Crime Intelligence over suspected involvement in illegal activities.
Police said a feud between rival groups could not be ruled out, although investigators have not established this as the motive.
Authorities are examining evidence from the scene and pursuing leads in an effort to identify and arrest the three attackers.
South Africa Battles High Levels of Gun Violence
The KwaMakhutha attack is the latest mass shooting to hit South Africa, which continues to struggle with high levels of violent crime and illegal firearms.
KwaZulu-Natal officials described the killings as deeply shocking and pledged additional police resources to investigate the attack.
South Africa has recorded several deadly mass shootings in recent years, often linked to criminal disputes, illegal drinking establishments or gang-related violence.
