Wang Yi India Visit

Wang Yi’s visit is significant as he is also China’s Special Representative for the India-China boundary talks. During his stay, he is expected to hold bilateral discussions with NSA Ajit Doval.

The visit comes as both countries continue efforts to stabilise ties after the military disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. India and China had resumed high-level engagement after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan in October 2024.

BRICS Summit In India

The New Delhi security meeting will help prepare the ground for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled to be hosted by India in September. India currently holds the rotating presidency of the grouping.

The discussions are expected to cover traditional and non-traditional security challenges, multilateral cooperation and coordination among Global South countries. Wang Yi’s participation is also being seen as a signal of continued engagement between New Delhi and Beijing ahead of the leaders’ summit.
