Wang Yi Calls For India-China Dialogue

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for India and China to speed up the resumption of stalled dialogue mechanisms, as both countries continue efforts to stabilise ties after years of border-related tension.

Wang made the remarks during his visit to New Delhi for the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting. He met National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on the sidelines of the event and said both countries should restart suspended mechanisms and expand exchanges across key sectors.

The proposed areas of engagement include diplomacy, trade, finance, law enforcement and media. Wang said India and China should work in the same direction and implement the consensus reached by their leaders.

The meeting came as India and China have been cautiously rebuilding contact after the downturn in relations following the 2020 military standoff along the Line of Actual Control.

India has maintained that peace and tranquillity in border areas remain essential for the full normalisation of ties. Both sides have held several rounds of military and diplomatic talks in recent years to address friction points and reduce tensions along the border.

The latest engagement also comes as India hosts the BRICS security meeting in New Delhi. The platform has provided both sides another opportunity to hold high-level talks despite unresolved differences.

Wang said the two countries should view each other’s development as an opportunity and support a multipolar global order. The meeting signals continued diplomatic effort, but sustained progress will depend on border stability, confidence-building measures and the effective revival of bilateral dialogue channels.
