VVS Laxman Likely to Become BCCI Cricket Director
Former India batter VVS Laxman is likely to be appointed BCCI Director of Cricket as the board considers a wider restructuring of its cricket operations. The proposed role would significantly expand Laxman’s responsibilities beyond his current position as head of the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The appointment has not yet been officially confirmed.
VVS Laxman Likely to Get Bigger BCCI Role
Laxman currently oversees player development and high-performance programmes at the Centre of Excellence and has regularly worked with players across India’s senior and pathway systems.
Under the proposed Director of Cricket structure, he could assume a broader role coordinating different areas of Indian cricket, including the senior national team, selectors, coaches and the Centre of Excellence.
BCCI Reshuffle Expected in September
The possible appointment comes as the BCCI prepares to review several key positions in September.
Ajit Agarkar’s current tenure as chairman of the senior selection committee is due to expire, although an extension until June 2027 is also reportedly under consideration.
The exact powers and responsibilities attached to the proposed Director of Cricket position have yet to be finalised.
Laxman Could Oversee India Cricket Pathway
Laxman has previously served as India’s interim head coach on multiple occasions and has played an important role in managing younger squads and emerging players.
If the new position is approved, he could become a central link between talent identification, player development, selection and high-performance planning across Indian cricket.
The BCCI has yet to formally announce either the position or Laxman’s appointment.
